Can you explain your affiliate program to me?
If you are a member of our affiliate program and you provide a link from your web site to our on-line catalogue,
anyone clicking on your link and then making a purchase on our site will earn you commission.
How do I join?
To join our affiliate program
Once you've submitted your application we will check out your site and as long as it does not breach any of our
operating guidelines we'll set up an affiliate account for you. (Your web site must be live and fully operational,
have an English language version available, and be in a sector related to the products we sell. For example, a site
focussed on selling arts and crafts products would be fine but a site selling computer games would not. Sites which
are wholly or partially under construction or which use pop-up/pop-under advertising are not acceptable).
Once your site has been accepted you then simply place one or more of our banner ads or a text link on your site. Information
about how to do this is available in our affiliate centre but you will need some knowledge of web page design or have a web
designer available to you. When a visitor to your site clicks on the banner or link and makes a purchase on our site, you
will earn commission. You can place as many banners or text links as you like on your site although it's best to limit
these to one per page. It is a condition of joining our affiliate program that you agree to the Terms and
Conditions of the program which may be varied from time to time.
How does the commission structure work?
The Stencil Library will pay the affiliate a percentage of the net amount of any confirmed sales made to customers who link
to our site from that affiliate's site. Stencils are commissionable at 5%, accessories, books and catalogues at 2.5%.
The net amount is the total sale value less UK Value Added Tax (VAT) at 20%. As an example,
on a total sale value of £120.00 (GBP), at 5% you would earn £5.00 (GBP) = £120.00 less £20.00 VAT
multiplied by 5 percent.
No commission is paid on sales which are subsequently cancelled or where the goods are returned for credit or refund.
All prices shown on our site are in Pounds Sterling (GBP) and include UK Value Added Tax.
What is the average net value of a sale?
The average net value of a sale is currently £28.00 (GBP) although sales can range from £5.00 (GBP) to £500.00
(GBP).
How often do you pay commissions, and what is the length of time following a completed sale that I can expect to receive
the commission payment for that sale?
The Stencil Library will normally pay commissions on the first working day of each month for all confirmed sales made in the period
90-120 days previously, so early in January you would expect to receive commission on sales made in September of the
previous year. This delay is so that goods returned and orders which are cancelled can be taken into account.
Is there a minimum level for commission payments?
Yes, commission payments are only made when your total commission due exceeds £50.00 (GBP). Amounts below this will be carried
forward until this level is reached. If you are not UK based you can choose a higher payment threshold (eg £100.00) as
this may significantly reduce the rate you pay in bank processing charges for a Sterling cheque.
How do I find out how much I have earned in commissions?
We have an online stats program that can be checked at any time and we send confirmation emails to let you know about
every sale on which you could earn commission.
How are commissions paid?
Unless you request otherwise, we will mail you a cheque in Pounds Sterling (GBP) drawn on a UK bank. You are
responsible for any charges made by your bank for processing this cheque.
If you are based outside the UK you may find it much more economical to be paid via Paypal as many international banks
levy high charges for processing Sterling cheques.
I run a VAT registered business in the UK. How do I deal with the VAT?
If you're a UK based VAT registered business or individual you'll need to tell us your VAT number and send us a VAT invoice each time
a commission payment becomes due. We'll then pay your commission gross to include VAT. You are responsible for paying this VAT to
HMRC as part of your normal input tax.
I am responsible for a number of Web sites which provide relevant content. Could I link all of these to your site as part of
my affiliation?
Yes, as long as none of the sites breaches our operating guidelines, this is quite acceptable. Once your application has
been accepted you can add additional sites via your affiliate details screen. IMPORTANT NOTE: The addition of any site which
breaches our operating guidelines will result in the immediate cancellation, without notice, of your affiliation and
forfeiture of any commissions due.
When a person clicks from the banner or link on my site, does my site ID
stay with the user until they make a purchase or is it for that page only?
As soon as a visitor enters our site from yours, your site ID is registered by our software. This means that once
a customer enters our site, you will earn commission on any sale made during that session.
If a customer came to our site from a link on your site their access would be 'cookied' so if they later returned direct
to our site you would still be credited with the commission from any purchase they then make. The only exceptions to this
would be where the customer accesses the site from a different computer on their subsequent visit, where they have deleted the
cookie from their computer, or if they subsequently arrive at the Stencil Library site via that of another affiliate. In the
last case the second affiliate would receive any commission due.
Is there any sliding scale of commission percentages?
No, at the present time, all affiliates are paid the same rate.
How can I check that I've configured the banners or links correctly on my site?
Once you've added the relevant code to your site, let us know and we'll make a test purchase to check that everything's OK. You won't
earn any commission on the test purchase but we'll alert you to any problems so you can fix them.
