| | | If you want a soft effect, you can colour wash through a stencil but it needs to be a large simple shape such as this diamond shown on the walls here. Simply get a stencil sponge and dampen it taking care to squeeze out all the excess water. Then pick up a tiny, tiny amount of paint. Start in the centre of your design and 'wash' the walls in small circles working out to the edge of the shape. When you have nearly exhausted the paint on your sponge, that is the time to do the edges (so it doesn't bleed under the stencil). It is easy to do but it is best to practice first. This effect is best executed on a matt surface (matt emulsion or latex paint). | |  | |
