Do you have any stencils of mirror frames? Thank you.
Reply from Helen at The Stencil Library

Hello, We have many borders that can be mitred to make a decent portrayal of a frame. Also, we have a range of print room stencils that are not yet on the site. These are stencils that are designed as frames around a print and may be what you are looking for. Please call or email with more specific details and I am sure that we can find you something to suit.

Thank you for your enquiry. The stencils you have seen in Domino magazine, are all from our Modern Design range. The Modern Design range, in the main, are graphic geometric patterns that each come in 4 different sizes. With each increasing size, it is not only the sheet size that gets bigger, but also the scale. The two stencils specifically mentioned in Domino are MD18 Rattan and MD19 Houndstooth. They actually used MD18 on the chest of drawers pictured in the Large size (MD18-L). For lattice stencils, it is worth looking through the whole Modern Design range as well as at GR115 and GR117 which are on the last page of our Garden Room section of stencils. If you go to our site and enter, you will see the list of categories and you can go into both Modern Design and Garden Room there. The larger sizes for Modern Design are listed at the bottom of each page in that section. The sizes listed will refer to the cut out area, if you need help judging the actual scale of a stencil, then please e-mail us with the code and we would be happy to provide more detailed information or clarify anything.

When you get to the page to enter your payment details and submit (send) your order, you will notice that you are on a secure page (confirmed by the prefix https on your browser bar and the lock showing at the bottom of your screen). Thank you for your message. There are two ways to see our stencils on our site - either through the catalogue categories or through the search. I cannot tell from your message which way you found the alphabet stencil. If you used the search, then there should be two listings: one for 200 Italic Alphabet (the small size) and the other for 200-L Italic Alphabet (the large, 57mm size). Click on the code number of the size you want (e.g. 200-L) and it should only put that size in your basket. If you have found the stencil through one of our catalogue categories, then the small size with the code number will be listed under the image and the large size with code number will be listed at the bottom of the catalogue page. Again, click on the code number next to the large listing, in this case 200-L, and you should be able to put the large size in the basket. I have just tested both it appears to be working. Please note, that when you do put the stencil in your basket, both the imperial (inch) and metric (mm) measurement will be shown. If you are still experiencing difficulties, then please just place the order and e-mail me. We do not process your order for 24 hours to allow you to check it and make any changes. If you end up with the wrong stencil on your order, we can change it manually, just let us know and we will take care of it immediately.

Thank you for your enquiry. We have many fish stencils in our range as well as other forms of aquatic life. The best thing to do is to do a search on our site for fish and other forms of sea life. We have the facility to do special sized stencils so don't let the standard sizes listed put you off. If you find stencils you like, e-mail us with the code numbers and the sizes you would like and we will get back to you with prices. We can go up to very large sizes if needed (I recently made one of our carp stencils 8 feet long for a client). We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your enquiry. We do make custom stencils, but I would imagine that the LV logo is under copyright. Before we can look at making a custom stencil for you, then you will need to get permission, in writing, from Louis Vuitton that it is all right for us to do so. Then we will be happy to get a quote together for you.

I have repainted a metal lamp and now need to stencil on the decorative leaves etc. but I need a curved stencil to go around the metal shade and lamp base. Do you make a curved stencil for that purpose? Thank you.
Reply from Rachel at The Stencil Library
Date: 23 Oct 2006 14:17:53 GMT
Thank you for your enquiry. You shouldn't need a curved stencil to go around your shade....a straight border should work perfectly well and the stencil film is flexible enough to bend around the shade. Stencilling the base of your lamp is more tricky. We do have a few circular stencils of a particular diameter but I think they will probably be too large for your purposes (most of them are around 12" diameter). I think the first thing you should do is have a look at our border stencils (we have some great mini borders in our Arts & Crafts range code numbers DE41-DE66) and see if we have a design that suits your needs. This should do for the metal shade. But we would have to look at making a custom stencil in a circle to go around the base. If you e-mail us with the code number(s) of the stencils you like, and the diameter the stencil would have to be to fit on your base then we will look at whether we can make a custom design and if so, provide a price (obligation free).

From: englandi am trying to stencila a gothic room that has archs. the boarders are a stright, do you have a suggestion for this?
Reply from Rachel at The Stencil Library
Date: 23 Oct 2006 14:04:01 GMT
Thank you for your enquiry. Stencilling around arches is tricky and many border stencils cannot be adapted to follow the line of your arch. However, there are certain stencils that can be used. There are certain borders that almost look like a series of motifs as opposed to a continuous design. These can be moved slightly when stencilling each motif to follow the line of your arch. You should also look at motif stencils as well. Again, these can be repeated to follow the line of your arch. If you want the stencilling to look continuous, then you simple stencil one motif right next to the other with no gaps. If you want to know if certain stencils will work around an arch, please e-mail us with any code numbers of stencils you are interested in and we will be happy to advise further.

I am an interior design student and am using your stencils as an idea for a project of mine. I am supposed to submit prices, including shipping, to my "client". I was filling out the order form to try and get the cost for shipping and handling (which I did not see), and I sent the order on accident! I did not mean to, and cannot afford for this order to be billed to my card that was listed. Is there a way to cancel it, please? Also, can you tell me the cost of shipping for the medium spiral stencil to my address? I do not wish to order it, I am merely proposing the idea for my project. If I get chosen, I will order with THEIR MONEY at that time. Thanks so much!

You are not charged at the time of placing your order. All information about any of our policies including shipping charges is in our FAQ section. Standard shipping to the US is a flat fee of 5.00 GBP (about 9.00 USD). I hope you get the go-ahead on the project and we look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Dear Terri in Hampshire. You can indeed stencil or etch the mirrored surface on your wardrobe doors and there are a few ways to acheive this. To stencil a pattern, either a decent quality acrylic paint or a paint formulated for glass will suffice. We stock both. Sometimes using just one colour can look very striking but you can use as many colours as you like. Etching is a little trickier but we do have an etching paste which will give a proper etched surface. If you like that idea then I recommend that you telephone us so that we may discuss the pros and cons with you. Another option is an etch effect spray. We no not stock these but they are widely available at DIY stores and can look very effective. We stock a water based product called frosting varnish. The effect is subtle and is best stencilled with a sponge, we can send you the correct sponge as well as the varnish. With all these options we can help you over the phone and give you more detailed advice. A major point is deciding whether you want to your pattern to be the frosted/coloured bit or whether you want the mirror to be frosted or coloured and the reflective area to be only visible in the pattern.

I am looking for a way to make up a child's name as a stencil to help him learn to write it and have more control of his pen. If you don't do that sort of thing could you please advise as to where I can find any. Thanks
Reply from Rachel at The Stencil Library
Date: 16 Aug 2006 08:32:10 GMT
Thank you for your enquiry. I think you will need a hard, thick plastic stencil of an alphabet with thin lines so that when the child draws through it, their pen does not go over the edges of the shape (hard plastic almost like perspex). We do not provide those kinds of stencils and the only place I have seen anything like it (and I am not sure it is exactly the type of stencil you are after) is in WH Smith (or other places you would get school or office supplies). I am sorry I cannot be of more help on this and hope you manage to find the stencil you need.

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately I cannot specifically recommend sites regarding Japanese design but a search on the internet should hopefully bring up sites that would be useful to you (I would specifically search for Japanese Textile Design on the major search engines). We have also found books on Japanese design when researching our Japan stencil range so they do exist. As much of Japanese design goes back several centuries, I would imagine that the choice and use of certain colours originally has much to do with the dyes and pigments that would have been available. I am sorry I cannot give you more specific help and wish you luck with your thesis. You have certainly picked a fascinating subject to study.

Thank you for your enquiry about stencil DE335. The diameter of the circle above the lady's head is 7 inches. If you measure the distance of her hands diagonally then it is 6.25". Or you can measure the distance horizontally (even though one hand is higher than the other) which is about 3.5". I hope that covers everything. I was wondering if it is possible to stencil on a wall using regular latex house paint. I was thinking of covering the walls in my bathroom and so would like to use a durable and scrubbable paint.

Also, for DE317 and JA44 - is the cut-out black or white?

Thanks
Reply from Lesley at The Stencil Library
Date: 19 Jun 2006 12:40:22 GMT
Dear Donan Yes it is possible to use regular latex paint for stencilling with. JA44 is a repeating pattern and the black area is the area that the paint goes through, the grey area in this particular stencil is drawn onto the film so that when you have stencilled through the black area you can then move the stencil over so the drawn area is positioned over the painted part and then continue on getting a perfectly matched repeat. In DE317 the black area is the area that the stencil paint goes through and the white area will show as the background colour. This stencil is also a repeating pattern but it does not have a drawn area, instead it has registration marks to match the stencil up with.

In the meantime, if you want to go ahead and place your stencil order, as long as the correct code shows up on the order form, you will get the correct size of 14.2" x 13.3". Thank you for your e-mail. We would have contacted you anyway to ask what initials you wanted on your monogram stencil. Because you can have up to three initials on this stencil (309 Classical), we couldn't list the thousands of possible combinations on the site. Please let me know which initials you would like (you can have up to three) and what they stand for. We take your initials and work with them on the computer until we get a decorative, entwinned combination trying to keep in mind what you would like - for example if one of the initials is for a last name and therefore you would like it fairly centered. I look forward to hearing from you.

I guess you could use one of the mosaic stencils as the basis for a mosaic ... just paint it on and then place the tiles over it? Have you heard of people using your mosaic stencils in this way? I'm thinking of using ML6 in my bathroom.
Thanks a lot.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sure I have heard this idea of using one of our mosaic stencils as a guide for applying actual mosaic tiles before. But I don't know if anyone has actually had any success with it. It sounds as though it should work. The important thing has to do with the size mosaic stencil you use. All the small size mosaic stencils are comprised of chips (i.e. tiles) of 7mm; the medium size mosaic stencils are comprised of chips of 14mm; the large mosaic stencils are comprised of chips of 21mm. Whatever size stencil you use, you will have to have mosaic pieces of the same size in order to match up with the stencil size. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Is there any way you could scan and e-mail me the picture of the stencils then I will defintitely be able to tell you which stencil design it is. Our e-mail address is sales@stencil-library.com. I look forward to helping solve your stencil mystery!

How large is the american flag stencil? can the size be adjusted? i want a LArge american flag -- i.e. 6 feet or more! thank you.

Thank you for your enquiry. The standard size of the flag stencil is 8.5" tall x 13.5" long. We can make a larger version for you. The maximum size we can make it in one piece would be about 40" tall x 64" long (481%). We can go bigger than that but would have to split it into sections, which would actually make it easier to use anyway. Please e-mail me with the size you would actually like or if 40" x 64" is sufficient and I will get prices together and tell you how to order the special size stencil. The e-mail address is sales@stencil-library.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Can I order other sizes of all over stencils. I do a lot of production work on walls and Having several repets per stencil make for a much quicker job. Thank you Joannie

Thank you for your enquiry. Yes, we can adjust the size of the stencils in most cases. We can simply enlarge a stencil so that the scale increases or we can also look at increasing the number of repeats on a stencil keeping the scale the same, but on a larger sheet. If you e-mail us, sales@stencil-library.com, with the code number(s) of the stencils you are thinking of as well as what size you would like it to be, then we will be happy to get back to you with confirmation it is possible and a price.

Hello, I came across your web-adress in my favourite home decoration magazine "Living & More" and have been browsing through your catalogue. Can you please tell me how to use decoupages for decoration, because I absolutely love these designs. Thank you

Thank you for your note. Decoupage is an old craft of cutting out paper images and sticking them onto all kinds of items: furntiure, picture frames, buckets, vases, books, bins, clocks etc, etc. Each pack of decoupage comes with 4 A4 sheets of the images shown. You cut the images out and then stick them onto your chosen item using a glue stick. You then varnish the surface to protect it. The decoupage packs do come with full instructions. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

From: Netherlandsi would like to buy some of youre gorgeous stencils, but i have 2 questions
1- are the UN-cut versions easy to cut your self?
2- i don't have a credit card, is there an other option to pay my order?

Thank you for your enquiry. The difficulty and time involved in cutting one of the uncut versions of the stencils is reflected in the price difference. Some are easier to cut than others. If you e-mail me a list of the designs you are interested in, I will be happy to confirm whether the stencils will be easy to cut or not. There are two ways to cut your stencils: either with a heatpen cutting tool or by scalpel. A heatpen (listed in our accessories section) is easier than a scalpel. Although it says on the web-site that the heatpen can only be sold in the UK, we are quite happy to send them to Europe as the voltage is the same, but you will need to change the plug or use a plug adaptor. At the moment, for our overseas orders, we can only accept payment by credit card or by a bankers draft (money order) in pounds sterling. We cannot accept payment by bank transfer at the moment. If you wish to pay by bankers draft then the address to post it to is The Stencil Library, Stocksfield Hall, Stocksfield, Northumberland, NE43 7TN. Place your order through the web-site and then send me an e-mail that you are organising and sending the money order and I will look out for it.

I saw a stencil in Domino Magazine and it is not on your side under as seen in and I can't find it by searching for headboard or bed stencil. It is a stencil that is used as a headboard. It there any way to find this easier than going through each stencil?

The site has now been updated and you can now order the headboard stencil if wished. Here is a link directly to the page: http://www.stencil-library.com/docs/asseenin172.htm (If the link doesn't work, you can go to www.stencil-library.com, "As Seen In" and access the Domino Magazine feature from there by clicking on the date) Unfortunately, we were not able to add the picture from the magazine yet, but the stencil is exactly as shown in the feature. All prices are shown in pounds sterling (there is a currency converter on the site, just click on the price of the item). We will charge in pounds but your credit card company will automatically convert to dollars on your statement. Standard airmail shipping to the US is a flat fee of 5.00 GBP (about 9.00 USD) regardless of the size of the order. Ordering is secure. If you have any problems or questions, please do not hesitate to get back to me. We look forward to hearing from you.

From: scotlandDo any of the quotations stencils come in a smaller size? My available space is 710mm x 310mm. (It could be split up into two lines of script so I suppose I need a stencil 5" deep by about15" long.
Thanks

Thank you for your enquiry. We can alter the sizes of most of our stencils to a certain degree. If there is a stencil you like but need in an alternate size, please e-mail us with the stencil code and the size requirements and we will get back to you with confirmation that it is possible and a price.

Thank you for your enquiry. All our stencils come ready Cut with only some also available in an uncut version (where you have to cut the pieces out yourself). When you order a stencil, you will automatically have put the Cut version in your basket (you actually have to change the order to uncut if that is what you require). If there is only one price for a stencil then that will be for the Cut version. If you have further questions or need clarification on anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
