On your chandelier stencil, you have a chain border that is included, is there anyway that I can purchase only the chain border? Thank you

| Thank you for your enquiry. Yes, you can purchase the chain section only from the chandelier stencil. I think it is about 0.75" wide x about 6" long. Is this size all right for you? If you need an alternative size or to arrange ordering the standard size, please e-mail us at sales@stencil-library.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

I have questions about stencil M-12 Tile 12. The graphic image of it shows black, white and grey areas. Which areas are the holes? Also, for the sizes, the M-12 is 7.5"x 7.5" with 9 repeating "characters", so with the larger M-12M, 15"x 15", are there still only 9 repeating "characters" that are proportionally enlarged, or does that 15"x 15" size refer to a bigger stencil sheet of the same size motifs? Likewise for the 22.5"x 22.5" ?
Thanks.

| Thank you for your enquiry about MT12. The image shown is a 3 part stencil, the black area is one stencil, the grey another and the white the third; so the image you are seeing is the finished design, all parts being cut out.
With the larger sizes the whole design of 9 "characters" is proportionally increased.

If I want to reverse the stenciled area do I need to order an uncut stencil? (I am etching this on a door window)Iam considering JA51. Thank You.

| Hello Cathie, With JA51 you could etch through the stencil to put the bamboo design onto the glass. However if I understand you correctly you want to leave the design area clear and etch the rest of the glass. You would be unable to do this with this design as it is made up of lots of separate sections. You would need a design that is in one piece that you could place on the glass and etch around. If you look at our Big and Bold range there are several designs there that would work.

Hi! I bought a stencil a couple of months ago and I've really loved it. But I was wondering if you could use a thicker mylar for future stencils. Is that possible?

| Thank you for your enquiry. I am pleased you like your stencil. Our current stencil film is 125 microns (5 mil) thick. We have been testing a stencil film that is double the thickness at 250 micron (10 mil) in the hope that we will be able to offer it for customers who want to use thick mediums such as plaster with their stencil. So far, we are pleased with the results so hope to be able to put this into production very soon. Please keep in contact with our blog www.designinspiration.typepad.com as we will make any announcements there.

I need a diamond stencil that repeats, is the measurement under the stencil the dimensions of the entire stencil itself? If so, what is the size of the individual diamonds on the different stencil options?
|
Reply from Rachel
| Date: 28 Aug 2008 09:07:06 GMT
| Thank you for your enquiry. You do not say which diamond stencil you are looking at, but based on your question (about the different options), I will assume you are looking at MD48. The sizes listed refer to the sheet size so I am happy to confirm the individual diamond size on each stencil (I am always happy to confirm sizes of any of our stencils). The size of the diamond on MD48 is 3.5" tall x 2.8" wide; MD48-M 7" x 5.6"; MD48-L 12.25" x 9.8"; MD48-X 17.5" x 14". We can do custom sizes in between if need be (just e-mail us about this possibility). It is worth mentioning that MD48 is a slightly more unusual variation on the harlequin design in that the diamonds are further apart than traditionally seen. If you want a more traditional diamond repeat, have a look at GMT32. This has a small diamond size of about 2" tall I think so we will probably have to do a special size for you if you wanted something bigger, but again, just e-mail us about what you want and we will see what we can do to accomodate you. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Hello,
I'm interested in you big and bold circle collection. Could you tell me if the DM20-S consists of just one size of circle or does it contain several diameters?
|
Reply from Rachel
| Date: 19 May 2008 14:51:59 GMT
| Thank you for your enquiry. DM20 includes 4 circles. On the standard size set, this includes 1 each at 4" (10.3cm), 5.9" (15cm), 9.1" (23.2cm) and 11.8" (30cm). For the measurements of the circles on the large size (DM20-L), double the measurements of the standard. For the measurments of the circles on the XL size (DM20-X), triple the measurements of the standard. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

I would like to paint a large US flag on the side of an old barn. Could your stencils be used for this purpose. If so, what are my options as well as costs??
Thanks

| Thank you for your enquiry. Yes, we do have a US flag stencil and yes, you could use our stencils on the side of your barn. However, you didn't mention a size and I think that might be an important consideration. We can make stencils up to virtually any size. If a stencil exceeds the maximum size we can make it in one piece, then we start making it in sections with registration marks. The US flag stencil is on a few layers (so you can get the different colours). Depending on how big you wanted to go, it might actually be something easier to create with tape at least for the blocks of colours and stripes. Once you get very big, any stencil is going to become floppy - especially something like stripes. What might work for you is to tape off and paint the whole flag shape, then tape and paint the blue area and then red/white stripes (all with tape). Finally, get a stencil to put the stars on. If you contact us with the overall size of the flag you want to create, we can help you with measurements and with the star stencil for the 50 stars. If you want a really large flag, this might actually be the easiest way to achieve it. Anyway, if you e-mail us with sizes, we can look at it and get back to you with more detail.

| Thank you for your enquiry. Actual vinyl is difficult to stencil onto because the paint might not key properly and therefore scratch off with use. It is definitely easy and possible to stencil fabric roller blinds. If your blind is fabric backed with vinyl (like a blackout blind) and you are stencilling on the fabric side, then that should be no problem. But if both sides of the blind are vinyl then I wouldn't recommend stencilling it. If you would like to discuss your particular blind further, then please do not hesitate to e-mail me.

I am interested in painting and stenciling the fascia of the portales of my house which receives a great amount of sunshine through out the year and of course is exposed to weather.
What would you recommend as a protective coat? We have used in the past Polycrylic, with some success in more protected areas.
Thank you for your time

| Thank you for your enquiry. This is a tough one to answer because you do experience such extreme weather conditions - mainly direct sunlight. I am not sure that I can advise you properly given that we experience so much less sunshine in England. I would think that your main concern is going to be fading and as far as I am aware, there are fade resistant paints available and Mexico is probably one of the best places to find it because of the sun experienced there. You can stencil with almost any kind of paint so if there is an exterior paint they use there, there is no reason why you cannot use that to stencil with. I will say that water based products are easier to use than oil based. If you can find this, then you might not need a protective coat (i.e. varnish) because that type of paint should be designed to stand up on its own. The only thing I can recommend is that you talk to someone at your local paint suppliers and tell them exactly what you want to do. Hopefully they can advise you best. I can say that the acrylics we sell as stencil paints do stand up quite well to outdoor use, but unfortunately we do not get to test them in the strength of lovely sunshine you get so I cannot say whether they would hold up as well in your conditions. I am sorry I could not give you more specific information.

| Thank you for your enquiry. The "Pied-de-Poule" is not a stencil. It is a vinyl sticker and can be purchased from another partner with Levis, a company called ApplePie Design. We did design three stencils for Levis: Polka Dot Fever, Chesterfield and The Walls Have Eyes, but the Pied-de-Poule design is not a stencil. If you go back to www.levis.info/atelier and select the "Pied-de-Poule" look, then click on the listing to buy the sticker. Scroll down the page. The first listing will be for us, but below that you will see the link for the Apple Pie design web-site. That will take you to their web-site.

Hello. I was wondering if you could help me with my project. I have some fabric I want to frame and I want to use a stencil as the matting so that the cut out on the stencil will allow the fabric to show through. In order to do this I would need the stencil printed and cut out on something thicker (preferably picture matting) so that the rest of the fabric does not show through. Is this possible?

| What an intriguing sounding project! We do not have the facility to cut our stencils onto thicker, opaque stencil material, but I would certainly like to investigate further to see if we could help you out. If you could e-mail me with the design you are interested in (and the size), then I would happily look into it further to see if we could do something for you.

| Thank you for your enquiry. We can often custom size our stencils. When you say "full-size", what sort of size did you envision? I have made a larger version of this stencil before, but it depends on how big you need to go. If you contact us with the size you would like, then I would be happy to look at it and if it can be done, come back to you with a price and how to order special size stencils. We look forward to hearing from you.

I want to use stencil OTT26 No.2 as an allover wall design..Is the whole stencil 5x7 or is the design element 5x7? Would it be an appropriate stencil for doing a whole room or would it take forever???
|
Reply from Rachel
| Date: 7 Feb 2008 09:32:06 GMT
| Thank you for your enquiry. I am happy to clarify what the measurements refer to on repeat patterns because it is not always clear. On OTT26, the 5" x 7" refers to the cut out area of the design. In this case, the cut out area includes 4 motifs. Each little motif is 2.14" high x 2.09" wide. If you need a larger stencil, you have two options: 1)we can do a straightforward enlargement which means that the stencil stays exactly the same, but everything gets bigger i.e. the sheet size and the motif size. 2) we can make a custom stencil where the motif size stays the same, but more of them are cut out giving you a bigger sheet. If you would like to discuss either of these options then please e-mail us.

On stencil # GMT 52 (repeat no. 22) there is a section with an oval and the motto of the Order of the Garter
around it (Honi soit qui mal y pense)and lions with fleur de lis in a shield or crest in the middle.
I used it in a class once, just that part, and would like to order it, if possible, but I can't seem to find it. Is it possible that this is a separate stencil? The one I used doesn't have the shield part inside the oval or the little wingdings separating the words, but otherwise looks very similar. The oval is 10 inches tall by about 8 and 3/4 inches wide. I'd really like to use it again.
Thanks for your time.

| Thank you for your enquiry. The "Honi Soit..." section of GMT52 is a seperate overlay so can be made as a seperate stencil. In fact, I can also cut you the shield and strap section as a seperate stencil too if you would like that. It is classed as a custom stencil and is not available to order via our web-site, but can be ordered by telephone. Our phone number including international codes for calling from the US is 011 44 1661 844 844. There is 8 hours difference between us so if you telephone in the morning your time, you can catch us in the afternoon our time. We look forward to hearing from you.

For an all-over pattern, is it the black shape or the white shape which shows the colour when stencilled?
Thank you.

| Thank you for your enquiry. In most cases, the shapes shown in black are the holes in the stencil, but in other cases, it is the reverse. If you e-mail us with the code number of the stencil you are interested in, we would be happy to confirm on a case by case basis, which parts of the stencil are the cut out areas, because there is no rule that applies to all of them.

I like your pineapple stencl(GR74)but it is a little too big for where I wan't to put it .Can I get it 10% smaller? thank you
|
Reply from Rachel
| Date: 14 Jan 2008 12:25:08 GMT
| Thank you for your enquiry. We can shrink GR74 Pineapple by 90% which would make it 20.7" tall x 22.5" wide. Would that fit your space? Although we can adjust the sizes of stencils in most cases, it becomes trickier when shrinking a stencil because the stencil becomes more and more fragile. This is why we always take a look at custom sizes on a case by case basis and will advise you if we think it is a bad idea. However, in this case, I think it will be no problem. There is a 2.00 GBP extra shrinking charge. The best way to order, if you would like to go ahead, is to order the standard size stencil securely through our web-site and then e-mail us straight afterwards asking us to shrink it by 90%. We will make the adjustment and e-mail you to confirm we have received your instructions. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
