A collection of Optical Effect stencils which can fool the eye with their unexpected shifts in focus. Depending on the choice of colour, designs appear to shimmer and dazzle. These designs had their heydey in the 1960's in the works of painters such as Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely and have enjoyed periodic revivals ever since. Most of the designs ilustrated here are repeating pattern stencils, which are easy to use and mean that areas large or small can be covered speedily. Colours are important when decorating with these stencils and for maximum impact use plain black and white or clashing complementary colours.
