Robert Adam,the Scottish architect and designer, was a man who changed British taste in architecture and interior decoration in the last third of the 18th Century. His style, derived from a new and elegant interpretation of classical ornament, ushered in an era of lightness and delicacy. Although, strictly speaking, the work of Adam falls before the Regency and Empire time frame, many of the motifs and the neo-classical feel are in keeping with the spirit of the collection.
